Moving around Gyeongju part 1 - Backpacking Korea Trip

The journey from Busan to Gyeongju take around one hour. I arrive in Gyeongju around 17.00 pm. It was nice that my hostel is near the express bus station so I don't have to take many time to go there.

My hostel name is Nahbi Guesthouse. It was really near from the station. Maybe 5 minutes walk? But since I come with a big baggage, I need 10-15 minutes to reach there. The man is really nice. I took a female dormitory room with 4 bed. The room is nice and we have private bathroom which is really good. At night I try to search for food but ended up buy some chicken and jajangmyun instant from Supermarket. The chicken is cost 6600 won, and it was really big. I can't finish it all. (Ok, actually I only eat 1/4, and I throw away the rest.. :( ). I don't spend many times outside because I want to take a rest for the next day.

So, in 21 Feb I wake up around 9 and plan to go to Bulguksa and Seokguram. Both of them is a World heritage place. There are a lot of information in the hostel. They give you the map and tell you which bus to go to the tourist place. I take bus no 10 from near my hostel. The bus has a standard fare. So basically you pay 1500 won for one trip. The bus that reach Bulguksa from my neighbourhood is bus no 10, 11 and 700. After I reach the place, I go to tourist information and take some pamphlet. I have to walk up for around 5 minutes to reach the place. I saw many cars there. I think Korean people tend to go everywhere by car since it's easier.

The ticket to enter Bulguksa is 4000 won. What is bulguksa? BULGUKSA The place is really nice, but it was cold. :( When I come there, there is such a renovation of one of the building? I don't know the name. So, there are some of Korean national heritage people that strengthen that building. I spend like 1,5 hours there and I am go out to take a bus to Seokguram.

The only way to reach Seokguram other that private car and travel bus is by bus number 12. The bus will come ever hour at minute 40. So, 10.40/11.40/12.40 and so on. The journey take 15-20 minutes. The price is the same, 1500 won. When I ride the bus I feel carsick. Since Seokguram is on the top of mountain, so the way to go there is awful.

Finally, I reach the Seokguram. SEOKGURAM The cost to enter is 4000 won again. Omg.. I feel like I don't want to pay for it. But, since I already there, I have to see it. OMG!! I think when I enter I can see the statue, but I have to walk for a long timeeeeee.... Around 5-9 minutes to go there. And what makes me disappointed is, the statue is inside a house and it was protected by glass. The statue was really far!! I can't take a picture inside, so I feel it worthless. T.T

I mean, I spend 7000 won and walk for a long time in a cold weather. And I only saw the statue for 2 minutes than I comeback?? OMG!!! it is annoyed me so much. I don't recommend this place for people that didn't understand history or come to pray. For me, it just not worth. :(

for the way to comeback I have to wait for the bus. The bus will come hourly such as 11.00/12.00/13.00. So basically, you spend one hour in this place. At first, I think it's impossible to spend that many time there, but since we have to walk to go there, I think that's reasonable.

I comeback and it is already 15.00 pm. Since I don't have any schedule, I just take bus no 11 to off in Gyeongju station. I want to go to the market and just walk around downtown for the rest of the day.

When I just walk around on my way home, I found a restaurant that catch my eyes. It was like fried rice with chicken. I enter that place and I order the food. Actually I come, because it was really cheap. The menu cost around 4500-5000 won. But, when I enter, I realised that I am the only one that eat by myself. The others are eat by their families or friends. I saw their table and I am surprised that the portion was too big. So, this restaurant has a pan in the centre of the table and the staff will cook for you. Fortunately they sell it per portion, so I get a chicken fried rice for one person only. ( I have the picture and video in my camera, Sorry.. I will update later.. :( )

So, first, they will give you some water and side dish. And the they will come with a pan and rice, chicken and cheese. I add some cheese because in the next table they put some cheese, so I want to try too. After that they will cook the chicken. After the chicken cooked, they put the rice and gochujang and some vegetables and stir it. They cook in front of my eyes. I found it interesting, so I just take a picture and video. :p

After some times, they put the cheese and it was done. I try it, and the cheese just melt away. It like a cheese in the pizza, and it was so delicious!!!! I love it so much. I ate all because it just too nice. I saw the table beside me and they order some kind of seafood set. Korean restaurant usually have some set for 2-3 people or 3-4 people and it was cheaper. The portion just big. I think it was fun to eat together from the same pan.. I hope I can eat that with my friend.. :"(

I just realised that Gyeongju is a very small city. When I saw the map, I think the station is far from my hostel, but after I walk, it just take 10 minutes walking. So near.. -.-

I come back to rest because tomorrow I will go aroung Gyeongju city with my Korean friend, Aram.
